Before and during your first session
If you have decided to visit an Osteopath in Hedge End or Stubbington, you may be wondering what to expect during your first consultation.
We’ll start your first session by listening to why you’re visiting us, and ask you some follow up questions about how it happened, your previous medical history and your goals.
Then we’ll move on to a physical examination to narrow down the cause. After, we’ll explain your diagnosis and treatment plan in plain English so you fully understand what’s happening and why.

What to expect at vertex therapies
What does osteopathic treatment look like?
Following your examination, your osteopath will explain their findings and discuss a suitable treatment plan. Treatment techniques include:
- Soft tissue techniques, which apply pressure to the muscles and other soft tissue.
- Muscle energy techniques, which require you to use your muscles to counter the forces applied by your osteopath.
- Manipulation techniques, the popular ‘clicking’ noise technique that restores motion to your joints and decreases pain.
It’s important to remember that our osteopaths have many more techniques to help you get out of pain, and we’re able to adapt to your preferences.

James Bisson M.Ost
James is an Osteopath with thousands of clinical hours under his belt. Over the last 6 years he has worked across both NHS and private clinics. He has developed a style of treatment which involves working with you to better understand the cause of your pain and the reason it persists.
James specialises in patients with chronic pain, arthritis, neck/shoulder issues and headaches who have exhausted other avenues of treatment.
