Shoulder Pain at Vertex Osteopathy
Most people when they think of shoulder pain they think of frozen shoulder. There are many different causes for your shoulder to be painful and unless you are around 50 with a previous history of trauma it is unlikely to be a frozen shoulder.
Shoulder pain is common. It is estimated that shoulder pain is the third most common musculoskeletal presentation in primary care, with approximately 1% of adults presenting with new shoulder pain every year! Across a lifetime up to 67% of people may develop shoulder pain.

What is Shoulder pain?
Shoulder pain is any pain arising from the shoulder joint. The shoulder joint is a ball and socket joint. This makes the shoulder extremely mobile, allowing us to move the arm in most directions. Because it is so mobile, it can be prone to injury.
Once injured all the muscles around the shoulder start to tighten up, restricting movement and causing pain. This pain is usually a constant dull ache which is sharp on movements. As multiple muscles are involved the pain can be quite widespread across the whole shoulder.
